Through the various versions of Mac OS X and now macOS that have been released since that time, the issue still shows up on occasion. So what causes the duplicates? Google changed the way it supported CalDAV (Calendar Extensions to Distributed Authoring and Versioning) and multiple calendars a few years ago, and it’s thought that Calendar didn’t exactly work well with that new process.

Here’s what you need to do:ġ) Delete all calendar accounts from Calendar and macOS. I’d even try things like force-quitting Calendar and then restarting the Mac or deleting and then re-adding the calendar accounts, but none of those worked for long.Īfter digging through the Apple Support Communities for a while, I finally came upon a solution that worked. They’d be gone for a few minutes, but would quickly start showing up again. One of the most frustrating things about this issue is that deleting those extra events never helped. For one of my clients a few years ago, the problem only happened on his MacBook Air, not on the iMac he had in his office nor on his iPhone. Most of the time, the duplicates will only appear in one or two calendars, and only on one device. Some of these duplicates come from those Apple special calendars that you can subscribe to - U.S. In my case, I use both iCloud-synced calendars and Google calendars. There’s a way to fix that problem once and for all…īefore we delve into the fix, let’s talk about some of the situations that seem to cause this issue. Sometimes an event will be duplicated over and over, often filling a day on the calendar with copies of the same exact event. In this case click on the drop down and choose the correct calendar name.ĭRUDGERY and Apple obliged to attend to disburden us from it.There’s an odd little problem with the macOS Calendar app that I’ve run into a number of times, both personally and during my years as a Mac consultant. If not, there will show a arbitrary calendar name. Command-E to edit it, and have a look on the assigned calendar: If it's the correct and original of your double calendars, then it's proper name will show up. Then click on one of them to show only this calendar. Option-Click on an active calendar to hide every events. Now you have to merge them - one doublet after another. But what it lacks in terms of speed, it more than makes up in utility.

(BTW: It's not really helpful that there is no option to sort this list alphabetically.)Īt the end of this tidying up you will have some calendar doublets. In our brief test, it took about 13 seconds to delete 15 duplicate entries, so this script is no speed demon. So you can empty your calendar list from calendar doublets step by step. Right-click on calendar and choose "delete" - iCal will warn you, if there are events in the calendar. Due to this *you cannot simply delete one of the doublets*, since you would encounter serious loss of data.īut you have to crawl through each single calendar (with me ca. Like some other people here I had to notice, that often both of two (or each of three) calendar doublets aren't simple duplicates, but contain various events: their *contents complement one another*. *The procedure to get rid of this Apple-grown calendar mess is as follows:* There's a nice helper application, called *"iCal Dupe Deleter"*, which does it's job fine, but it only kills event doublets, not whole calendars or groups. Unfortunately, there is no real help yet neither in the forum nore from Apple folks THEMselves. Like many other folks here, I more than once got *duplicated calendars and calendar groups after syncing* - in my case syncing with a Nokia 6600.
